Nobody in any fandom really enjoys hearing a reccer or a writer talk about Real Life when they should just be doing what's expected of them -- I know, because I hate it myself. But I figured posting a tiny explanation was necessary and wouldn't be too annoying at this point.

I have been in a sort of limbo since I stopped working 8 months ago, unable to put my life together or even decide what I want, which basically left me watching TV shows, reading fic and doing puzzles all day every day. Not that it was bad or anything. I do have lots of fun doing those things. The thing is, I don't have the will right now to finish a project. Any project. The website is half done and waiting. About 10 fics I started writing in various fandoms are the same. The hosting has been fixed for some time now, but I just don't feel like putting the site back up.

I've always enjoyed participating in my fandoms. In some ways I feel like I owe them for all the fic and art and general fannish love. So even though I am not up for anything complicated at this point, I thought maybe I should have a simple rec journal where I can just post links to the tons of fics I have waiting to be sorted and formatted and recced at Rec'N Roll. And perhaps later, when I am back to being a normally functioning human being, I could continue putting the website together. (Hopefully soon?)

I don't know if there's still people visiting this journal. But if anyone's here, I'd love to hear what you think. I've always thought there were too many regular rec journals and no need for a new one by me, but it seems about all I can handle, so...

Well. Anyway. I'll make sure to post the link here if/when I decide to go through with it.

I have finally put together a plan that will allow me to update daily, keep the website going for the foreseeable future and not spend hours at a time working on it. Because while it's okay for me to spend so much time on this right now, it'll be a whole different story when I start school in a few months.

The thing is, before I make the switch to the new system, I have to make some changes to the rec pages I already have archived, which will take some time.

I am going alphabetically by fandom name, and I just finished due South, so as you can see, I have a long road ahead.

I want to apologize for the experimental way I am running the website. I really do hope to put an end to it soon.

Meanwhile, if you have been dying to tell me something you always wished was different about Rec'N Roll, now is the time.

Would it be too weird to tag recs at Rec'n Roll with del.icio.us, instead of making a new page for every flavor and stuff? Cause I want to add timeline and genre info to each rec and that will take like half my future life. If I could use php, it would be easy I guess, but with html, it's torture.

I could rec 10 times faster if I didn't have to spend so much time coding...

*ponders*

ETA: Okay, the more I play around here the more I like the idea. It lets you do intersections; like showing you recs tagged both with Firefly and Hurt/Comfort. This is better than the system we have right now anyway.

Yes, I know, this is another one of my bouts of endless meddling with the website, but it's so cool.

Official Flavor Suggestion Post

I am trying to keep the flavor thing interesting and useful, so with the new layout I removed some old, boring categories. (Violence, Original Character etc.) Meanwhile I have some ideas for new flavors:

Any/All Fandoms

Apocalypse (Before/After/During)
Ghost Stories
Epistolary Fiction (Letters/Diaries)
Detective/Investigation
Courtroom/Trial

Stargate SG-1 / Atlantis

Public Stargate (SGC goes public)

Harry Potter

Veritaserum (Confessions)
Loss of Magic
House Change

Also, I want to have a section in which futurefics and AUs are listed by characters' occupations (which would be the end of the flavors Auror!Fic & Journalist!Clark). It would take a long time to put it together if I do decide to go ahead with it though.

Anyway. If you have a suggestion or request regarding the flavors, please feel free to reply to this post.

The website will be up tonight, all shiny and new, and I thought I'd make this request thing official and permanent.

From now on, I will update this post regularly with the numbers of the recs I have lined up for every fandom (meaning the recs I have written; waiting only to be formatted and uploaded). You can post a reply here requesting a fandom, and I will give it priority, bump it up so to speak.

Smallville:

38 stories

Supernatural:

29 stories

House, M.D.:

10 stories

Harry Potter, Harry/Draco:

10 stories

Harry Potter, Misc:

6 stories

The X Files:

8 stories

Firefly:

7 stories

Star Wars:

7 stories

Grey's Anatomy:

4 stories

Stargate: Atlantis:

8 stories

Brokeback Mountain:

3 stories

The Sentinel:

1 story

Master and Commander:

1 story

<strike>Stargate SG-1: </strike>

<strike>8 stories</strike>

05/25/06

<strike>Stargate: Atlantis: </strike>

<strike>16 stories</strike>

05/25/06

<strike>Sports Night: </strike>

<strike>9 stories</strike>

06/01/06

<strike>The Sentinel: </strike>

<strike>9 stories</strike>

06/01/06

<strike>due South: </strike>

<strike>9 stories</strike>

06/01/06

I have this problem. Whenever I maintain a website, I just can't leave it be. I keep changing the layout, the order of things, the colors... It's my *thing*. I need professional help. Restless Webmasters Anonymous. Or something.

Anyway. Right now, I'm playing around with the website. Not that I'm gonna change much. Just trying to make it a bit more easier on the eyes.

Meanwhile, I have updates lined up.

Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Atlantis, Sports Night, The Sentinel, Smallville, The X Files

If no one cares, I'll just start from the top when I'm done tweaking. But if anyone has requests, they should speak up now or forever hold their peace.

No seriously. Just let me know and I shall grant your wish.

This LJ will only be used for updates notices. And when you want to browse through the recs, it'll be much easier. At least that's what I'm hoping.

I feel kind of nervous about this. I could use some feedback. *glances around nervously*

Summary:

Krycek returns from Russia and seeks Mulder's help in investigating a case. Mulder, Scully and Krycek form an uneasy alliance, but nothing is as it seems in the small town of Leyden Creek.

Excerpt:

"You killed my father."

"Yes, I did." He hadn't really been expecting that clean answer and now that he got it, it made him feel strangely empty. Drained. He looked at the man standing there and felt he might as well be looking at an alien artifact, something he had no chance of comprehending. "Aren't you going to try to strangle me again?"

Mulder shook his head slowly. He drew a fingertip along the window pane, feeling the chill, willing it to numb him. "No." He looked at Krycek again. "You dream about that?" Krycek nodded. "Nightmares."

Another slow nod. "Yes." Mulder looked more closely at him. Alex Krycek, former Consortium assassin and all around villain, was crying. Silent tears slid down his face, and he ignored them to look back at Mulder for a moment, before walking away from the window and getting back into bed again.

And I thought it was me he was hurting, Mulder thought slowly. He stayed where he was for a moment and tried to regain his balance, but he couldn't remember if he'd ever had one, if this roller coaster ever went past a point called sanity and if there were instructions for how to stop it there. Outside in the street, more nothing happened. He walked towards his bed and sat down heavily. The silence was back, worse than before.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, he ran his fingers through his hair and bit his lip. He was tired and irritable and confused, his head ached, all he wanted was to lie down and go back to sleep, a deep dream-free sleep. But that dreadful silence wouldn't let him. It ate at him, at his pain and at his defenses, until he stood up unsteadily and took the few short steps across to the other bed, and tugged at the covers.

"Move over." Krycek looked up, eyes wide and startled, soundless tears still sliding down his face. "Move over," Mulder repeated, getting into bed beside the other man. He wrapped the covers around them both, and stole half the pillow from under Krycek's head. "Now shut up and go to sleep."

"Wh--what did you think?"

"I think... I think..." Jim swallowed and tucked Blair's head back under his chin, "I think that I don't deserve you," he said hoarsely. Blair wound his arms around Jim's torso and squeezed. "I think that you're the smartest man I've ever met. I think that you're the best partner I could ever have. I think... I think..." Unbidden, Carolyn's words of the week before ran through his mind, and his mouth slipped its leash. "I think I love you," he blurted, and winced.

Slowly, Blair pushed himself away again to look up into Jim's face. He breathed in hard and his eyes were wide and enigmatic.

"Are you happy in this moment, Jinn?" Ben asked, honestly curious. What could this man of mystery, this dashing smuggler, have found in plain, ordinary Ben?

"Yes, I am," Jinn replied, kissing the flesh under his mouth. "I am happier than I think I have ever been."

Ben tried to fight down a wide grin of happiness, but it blossomed anyway. After a few minutes of quiet, he said, "This is completely insane, you know."

"Yes, I know," Jinn replied, sounding smug and sure and almost carefree. Then he raised his head from Ben's chest and looked at him, suddenly very serious. "Come with me," he whispered. "When I leave this place. Come with me. Please."

Ben's breath caught in his throat and his eyes widened. He blinked several times, but his brain refused to start. "Yes," he finally breathed, knowing it was a true answer. "Yes."

"You are in my house," the man growled. He had a very pleasant voice -- well, Ben assumed it would be pleasant if it weren't growling. "Get out."

"So sorry," Ben said, replacing the crystal drop and carefully backing down the ladder. "But it's not your house anymore. It's mine." He wiped his damp hands on his trousers. "I can show you the receipt, if you'd like."

"I don't care." The man, or rather, the ghost of the man, followed him down, floating where Ben climbed. "You are in my house and I want you gone." There was another house-rattling boom of thunder following his words.

"Well, I'm not going." Ben lifted the small pail of (now dirty) soapy water from the ladder's tray and carried it into the kitchen -- it was time to replace it anyway. "I find I rather like it here."

"Get OUT!"

There was yet another thunderclap and Ben looked up with a frown. "Good gracious. Are you doing that? That's quite a nice trick. How do you do it?"

"Are you DEAF?" The ghost was clearly becoming agitated. "Get out of my house!"

Sometimes things are shattered so far beyond repair, that even superglue can't keep it all together. Just keep trying until it all sticks together enough to make do.

"You're right. No one would call Lionel Luthor a good father, Lara. I'm not sure of all the circumstances, because Lex doesn't like to talk about it, but more than his father was involved. And these people have done the same thing to other children. And now it's being investigated by the police."

"And by Clark. Which means that it will be made better," Lara declared, with complete faith in her older brother's abilities. "He's good at fixing things."

Clark gave a slightly nervous laugh. "Hey, don't forget Lois, too."

Lara sniffed. "'pends if she's stopped being nasty to Lex."

Lois actually looked offended. "Look, I didn't know what was going on when I upset him so badly. It won't happen again." Clark couldn't believe that one comment from his little sister got more of a sign of contrition than his various bouts of shouting and moralizing.

Lara had her hands on her hips. "Good. Because just 'cos you didn't know doesn't mean it didn't hurt. You should apologize. I had to apologize when I broke Gemma's doll even though I didn't know I'd walked on it. But it was her favorite, and she cried, and even though I didn't mean it, she was still hurt. And this is much worse than that."

"What kind of game are you playing, Adam?" They'd been sitting close enough to the bar for Joe to take it all in.

"Why do you ask, Joseph? Worried our hidebound Highland friend is going to die of a conniption?" His voice was unconcerned.

Joe looked surprised at the remark. "This isn't like you." He poured a glass of Scotch.

"Really? Maybe it's just like me, Joe. How would you know?"

Joe looked at him as he handed him the drink. "I didn't deserve that."

Methos looked faintly apologetic. "No, you didn't, but I don't owe either of you any explanations. Jeremy is a pleasant...diversion. I'm nothing more for him. Mac will have to get over it."

"And if he doesn't?" Joe raised his eyebrow in that irritating way he had.

"Then maybe he'll get a clue." If Methos felt a twinge of regret for his decision, he didn't let it show in his voice.
